A visit to Malaga is the perfect day trip from your luxury Marbella villa. Less than an hour by car, you’ll be transported to the hustle and bustle of this popular tourist destination. Amongst its well-known attractions is Cathedral de la Encarnación, an iconic landmark dating back to the 16th century. Its baroque design still features many of the ornate details inside, which include two organs with over 4,000 tubes. Time your visit right and you might even get to experience Latin hymns being sung in all their glory. Do book ahead in advance, as it’s extremely popular.

On the bright and peaceful Balearic Island of Mallorca you’ll find one of the most prestigious cathedrals in Spain. The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma, better known as ‘La Seu’, is accessible from your Mallorca villa rental since it’s in the centre of the capital. Inside it’s hard not to be wowed by its scale, magnificence and Gothic design. With 61 stain class windows, strands of light seep through bouncing off pillars to create an other-worldly ambiance. The breathtaking crown-of-thorns that drape over the altar are quite the centrepiece, attributed to the world-famous architect Gaudi.

By far one of the most famous cathedrals in the world, let alone Spain, the Sagrada Familia stands proud at 172 metres. This masterpiece was constructed by none other than Antoni Gaudi in 1882. To this day it remains work in progress, with an ambition of finishing construction by 2027 to mark the centenary of his death. It would be remiss to visit this monument without scaling its towers. Whilst only two are open to the public to climb, be prepared for claustrophobic small spiral staircases – it is however worth it for the incredible views across Barcelona!

To the north of the country is one of the most famous cathedral’s on the Catholic map. Santiago de Compostela’s gothic style with baroque undertones, creates a formidable beacon lighting up the city skyline. Widely believed in popular culture as the burial place of Saint James - the apostle of Jesus Christ, it attracts pilgrims the world over and has done since the Middle Ages. It’s also easy to locate in the heart of the city, making it perfect for visiting away from your villa rental.
