Whether chilling by the pool, partying in the clubs, or spending time with friends and family, Mykonos is the Greek island everyone’s talking about right now. Guess what’s the number one question I get asked when I tell people I work for Global Luxury Villas? That’s right – do you get to stay in the best villas in the world? For the main, my job is administrative and strategic-heavy, but every once in a while, I’m able to board a plane and hop to the best destinations in the world. So, in short – yes – I do get to visit the best places, but only with you in mind!

In the long list of destinations Global Luxury Villas offers, our nineteenth and most recent addition is Mykonos. The Greek Island has always been a favourite with discerning travellers, a trend we’ve seen explode over the past few years.
Sure, there are plenty of hotels, But when you rent a villa in Mykonos with us, you’re guaranteed privacy, comfort and a luxury swimming pool – something of a holy grail in this small but punchy island.
And so, I found myself arriving in Mykonos, excited to meet a carefully-curated shortlist of 20 properties and landlords with keys to the best villas in Mykonos. Only half would make the cut

Although it has been a hard year for tourism, Mykonos has bucked the trend, as one of the growing Greek destinations. Our team spent weeks researching the very best Mykonos Villa rentals, that I was about to put to the test.
Unlike many property rental businesses, we take the time to get to know our clients and visit their properties. Each must meet our strict criteria to be accepted into the GLV family. A few things we’re looking for are:

• A well maintained property
• A superior location
• Size of property
• Comfort and first-class facilities
• Unrivalled views
• Cleanliness
• Proximity to local attractions and entertainment

Visiting a property also allows me the first-hand experience to see a property and gauge the space, as well as ensure it lives up to our high expectations. Plus, it’s beneficial to see how many guests can comfortably fit, and whether it’s family friendly.
Meeting the proprietors was a pleasure and privilege, each taking the time to show me around their homes, including the impressive facilities. It was clear from the onset that Mykonos Villas are built to wow and impress. They hinge on clifftops and mountain edges offering jaw-dropping views. They are hidden in caves and in quiet corners of towns, always conveniently located, just the right distance from the buzz, the beach and the bars.
But what impressed me most, was the beautiful interior decoration, authentic to its Myconian roots, creating a welcoming ambiance, for families, couples and friends alike. Spotlessly clean, achingly beautiful and with incredible facilities, I can see why Mykonos is revered by travellers.

As the eyes and ears of the customer, my time was well-spent recceing the facilities, imagining what experience it would offer, and asking the owners questions clients would likely pose. I always find this kind of immersive experience the best way to get under the skin of a destination – something that has served me well.
Did I have a favourite? Well that would be telling. But I did enjoy Mykonos villa rentals near Mykonos Town, which is a magnetic place to visit with its cobbled streets and hidden alleyways, let alone non-stop nightlife. To that end, I was also hugely impressed by the restaurants across the island, offering delicious meals – a mix of European menus, traditional Greek cooking as well as Asian influence, if you look hard enough.
The locals pride themselves on hospitality – and it’s true that you feel like you’re being pampered on vacation from the moment you arrive.

I came here to review a number of Mykonos Villas, but what I discovered was much more. A whole-hearted approach to hospitality that thrives on tourism, and positively invites it into their homes. A destination that’s so in-demand that in order to rental a villa in Mykonos you need to book months in advance (don’t delay if you’re thinking about coming) and an island that’s alive – night and day – with the sound of good times echoing from the ground up.
As my time on the island came to a close, I was delighted to confirm a number of the luxury Mykonos villas into Global Luxury Villas portfolio, so impressed I was with their high-standards, location and facilities. But it was more than just that – it was the personal touch, love and care invested into these homes that oozed of something special.
